“Bankuta” Can Also Be Use As A Weapon In Coup Plot -Mahama Joins The Coup Challenge

Former President John Dramani Mahama has mocked recent allegations by Government over a coup plot leading to the arrest of some individuals including top military officers in Ghana.

Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress NDC could not not hide his joy over the creative nature of some Ghanaians and their sense of humor with issues of National interest, indicating he got to know that ‘Bankuta’ can even be used as a weapon in a coup attack.

The former Head of State at a recent event, showered praises on Ghanaians for their sense of humor noting, “that’s the good side of Ghanaians”.

“There was this challenge going on of people showing possible weapons that can be used in a coup d’etat. There was this one that was very intriguing because there was the wooden spatula that is used to stir banku that we popularly call ‘Bankuta’…. and I said well passable; that can be used as a so you can hit the guy at wherever you’re going to attack with the bankuta and he may fall unconscious,” he jokingly said.

Five persons are standing trial over their plot to take power and destabilize the country. A joint security operation on Friday led to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunition from locations in Accra and Kpone-Bawaleshie in Dodowa.

The joint operation was to neutralize an elaborate plot targeted at the Presidency, and with the ultimate aim of destabilizing the country.

The arrest and seizure come after fifteen (15) months of surveillance and gathering of evidence on the activities of the prime suspects and others.
