It’s been 64 years since our beloved country gain independence from our colonial masters. History reveals that six Ghanaians named “The Big Six” struggled with the colonial masters and gained independence for us on 6th March 1957. Dr Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah was the leader so a memorable day was set aside to remember him for all the pain and agony he went through to gain independence for the country.
When President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo came to power he thought it wise that all the six Ghanaians played a major role for our independence to be attained so he changed the memorable day name from Founder’s Day to Founders’ Day. This brought a lot of controversies as some Ghanaians said that they believe the other five Ghanaians played a major role but Nkrumah was their leader.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has today delivered his Founders’ Day message on his official Facebook page. He stated that “Today, we pay homage to successive generations of Ghanaians who play. significant roles towards the liberation of our country from colonialism and imperialism. Let us all put our shoulders to the wheel, and drive our nation to its destination, a united, developed, prosperous, free, democratic and independent Ghanaian nation”.
This comment has propelled some Ghanaians to asked the President whether we are truly free from the Whitemen’s colonialism. This is because as long as they can remember neocolonialism is still working in this country. The Whitemen are still using economic, political, cultural, and other pressures to control and influence our country.
The oil that we extract in this country, how many percentages do we get as a country? A country that always burrows from the same colonial masters and signed dubious agreement with them. A country whose leadership always go to the same colonial masters to beg for alms from them in other to survive is definitely not an independent country.
