Anger In Kwahu As Youth Embarrasses Eastern Regional Minister

There is a seething anger in Mpraeso Constituency of the Eastern Region after a sponsored youth group believed to be supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, embarrassed the Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong during a sod-cutting ceremony.

Seth Kwame Acheampong, the immediate past Member of Parliament for the area was defeated by the incumbent MP- Davis Ansah Opoku during the Party’s Parliamentary primaries held in 2020 in an attempt to seek reelection for the fourth term in Parliament.

The internal Political wrangling between supporters of the two personalities has not been put to rest .

This manifested on March 23, 2021, during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of 27.5 Km Bepong to Ntomem road by the  Regional Minister and his entourage from the Department of feeder roads when some NPP supporters held placards with various inscriptions to mob the incumbent Member of Parliament Davis Ansah Opoku for bringing the road project into fruition within three months in Parliament, something the Regional Minister could not do in his 12 years in as Mpraeso MP.

Some of the supporters reportedly hooted at the Regional Minister for being incompetent.

The action of the NPP supporters has been condemned by a Kwahu based pressure group -” Kwahu One Alliance for Development”.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, March 30, 2020, the group described the action of the youth as sheer indiscipline and embarrassing, therefore, urged the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, to call the youth to order, and to give honour to their formal MP who is now the Regional Minister.

“We condemn the action of the youth. It is not characteristic of Bepong residents. So we beg the Regional Minister to forgive the town and make sure he does his possible best to bring more development. We are aware that the tender committee of the feeder road issued an acceptance letter on 31st August 2020 on this particular road in question and was awarded on December 2020 when Seth Acheampong was MP. so it is surprising that some people will mobilize the youth to engage in this embarrassing act. We Kwahu one Alliance for development condemns this action”. Convener of the group Mark Danso stated.

He added that “All MPs, MDCEs should know that they are under the Regional Minister. A Regional Minister’s position is a revered one and therefore must be respected. So we are kneeling before the Minister to apologize. He shouldn’t be upset. We pray that the Banana Processing factory is also brought to fruition in Bepong to create jobs for the youth”.

Davis Ansah Opoku, the MP for Mpraeso has meanwhile acknowledged the contribution of his predecessor MPs -Osarfo Mensah and Seth Acheampong now Regional Minister for their individual roles played which culminated in bringing the project into reality.
