Ancestral Poet launches 19 spoken-word(Poetry) track album in Kumasi

A nineteen (19) track poetry album was launched yesterday in Kumasi; the Ashanti regional capital.

The album by Akan spoken word artiste; Ancestral Poet, is expected to be a legacy of Ashanti poetry for future generations.

He asserted that listening to the poems will help entertain and also educate Ghanaians on the nuances of the Akan language, history and traditions.

“The poems are about our culture, tradition, heritage, character, God’s word, a campaign against corruption, road safety, black injustice across the world and a campaign for farmers to be well taken care of among other themes” he hinted.

Ancestral Poet; known outside poetry as Fredrick Owusu Atta Nyarko jnr. has practiced poetry for five years.

The event which took place at the Golden eye pub conference hall drew chiefs, queen mothers, other poets as well as lovers of literature.

The Ghana Association of Writers, which Ancestral Poet is a member of was also well represented at the ceremony.

Poets including Aku Sika, Zerben the SPOKEN god, Ink Weaver and Tha blackboi from the uptown energy -Rebel Africa camp performed in solidarity with their colleague.

A Jamaican Poet; Ras Takura also flew from Jamaica to grace the occasion with a performance that focused on healthy eating and criticized Genetically Modified Foods.

Elizabeth Morrison, a history teacher also flew all the way from Boston in the United States to be a part of the launch.

There were also various activities that showcased the rich Ashanti culture including drumming and traditional dances, a contest of proverbs, the serving of palm wine among others. The Yaw Asante Kete Group was there to also perform some traditional music and dances as well as delegations from the Oyokohene and Kenkaasuhene’s Palaces

Ancestral Poet appealed to individuals and organizations to support the craft of Poetry by patronizing the services of poets and supporting them in any way they can.
