Akufo-Addo’s 10,000km Road Claim Correct – Majority Leader

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has defended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-claim Addo’s that ten thousand, eight hundred and seventy-five (10,875) kilometers of new roads have been built in the last five years.

He agreed with the President.

On Tuesday, April 5, the Suame lawmaker argued in Parliament that, technically, every operation on the roads is deemed construction, which backs up the President’s claim.

“Some ten thousand, eight hundred and seventy-five (10,875) kilometers of new roads have been created in these five (5) years,” President Akufo-Addo stated in his 2022 State of the Nation Address delivered on Wednesday March 30.

“Let me say that it was an honor and a great joy for me to commission the Tamale Interchange yesterday, the first of its kind in our country’s northern section, which the people of Tamale celebrated. It was a very nice birthday present for me.”

Adaklu Member of Parliament Kwame Agbodza, however, disputed his figures.

Mr Agbodza, speaking to the media, asked the President to present all relevant documentation to back up his claim.

“If the administration can provide data on 10,800 kilometers of new roads built, I would retire as a member of Parliament,” he said. However, if it is also true that the government did not construct 10,800 kilometers of road, President Obama should resign.”

“Technically, any action on roads constitutes to building,” Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu responded. “Hence, His Excellency the President’s assertion that some more roads have been built, improved, and enhanced is correct.”
