Adom FM News Editor, Gladys Arthur, known in media circles as Afia Pokua Vim Lady has refuted allegations by Neat FM presenter, Adakabre Frimpong Manso that flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo threatened him at a press soiree in his house in December 2011.
The former Adom FM Morning Show host reacting to news of the NPP threatening to boycott his afternoon political show on Neat FM claimed that he was on two occasions attacked and threatened by the NPP flagbearer for daring to do stories about him.
Speaking on Joy FM on Monday, Adakabre claimed that he was abused by Nana Addo in the presence of NPP Running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Tema East MP Titus Glover, former Ayawaso West Wuogon MP Frema Osei Opare, Northern Region NPP Chairman Daniel Bugri Naabu and Minority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu.
This, he said happened in April 2014 at the residence of the late Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama.
Prior to this, Adakabre claimed Nana Addo at a press soiree had abused and threatened him at his Nima residence when he attended an end of year press soiree organized by the politician.
The threat, Adakabre claimed was a form of protest by the NPP standard bearer for reviewing and interviewing persons about a story which appeared in the Daily Post that he had urinated on a mosque during his visit to the Yabgonwura in Damango.
The story claimed that Nana Addo after urinating on the mosque washed his manhood with Voltic water.
“Nana Addo abused and threatened me, I was so sad, but I kept quiet…I was afraid because I had several text messages flowing from that incident when I was told to the face that you will be killed,” he alleged in the interview.
The attack on him by the twice defeated flagbearer of the NPP, Adakabre claimed occurred in the presence of other reporters including Listowel Kwadwo Fordjour and Afia Pokua Vim Lady of Adom FM.
Reacting to this on Adom FM’s Evening News Monday, Afia Pokua denied claims by the Lawyer cum Journalist that Nana Addo publicly attacked his person.
According to Afia Pokua who claimed she met Adakabre at the residence with his producer, Kwadwo Fordjour, Nana Addo after being ushered to the meeting grounds by NPP Youth Organiser, Sammy Awuku started shaking hands with the media personnel present at the event.
However, when Nana Addo got to the turn of Adakabre, he failed to greet him and instead confronted him on why he had chosen to expose him to public ridicule through publication of falsehood concerning him on commercial radio.
“Nana Addo asked Adakabre why are you doing that to me…he asked that if I am your brother won’t you have liked it….why do you put me on public radio and disgrace me like that?,” Afia Pokua quoted Nana Addo as saying at the public event.
According to her, Nana Addo who was least happy at the disgrace meted out to him on air rather questioned why Adakabre failed to consult his outfit for their version of the story after the newspaper report.
Asked if she saw Nana Addo publicly threatening Adakabre for daring to publish the supposed false story about him, Afia Pokua responded that she never saw anything like that.
“There was no threats, what I saw is what I have said if it amounts to threat to Adakabre, then it is based on his own interpretation…Adakabre fell ashamed because he had wanted to greet Nana Addo but Nana Addo refused to greet him,” she said further.
The Adom Midday News Anchor further claimed that, she is not privy to the threatening text messages which Adakabre claimed in the interviewed were sent to his phone after the incident.
Meanwhile, a Daily Guide report of 8 July 2013 claimed Abubakari Rufai, the 32-year-old man who accused Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of urinating on the walls of a mosque at the Yagbonwura Palace in Damango, thereby defiling the place, had died of urine retention.
