Akufo-Addo never intended to make Special Prosecutor’s office work – Ndebugri

Private Legal Practitioner John Ndebugri has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) established the Special Prosecutor’s Office not to fight corruption but just to fulfil a manifesto promise.

According to him, the promise of establishing that office was so bold that nothing could be done about it so they crafted the law in such a way that the occupant will be unable to work.

“Like all the promises made by the NPP in their 2016 manifesto, they did not intend to establish the office of the Special Prosecutor but the promise was so bold that there was nothing they could do about it so they crafted the law in such a way that you’ll be there but you cannot work.,” he said on Accra-based Joy FM in an interview.

Just like one district one factory when they have not established one factory and they will go about telling you people that there are 75 factories and you people won’t ask them that list the places where they are. There is none in my village there is none in my district so it’s a matter of pretending to fulfill a campaign promise not intending that it should work.”

To him, he blames Martin Amidu for “walking into a landmine and I was praying that he will come out safely, and I hope he has come out safely”.

He indicated that Martin Amidu resigned because his source of protection, the former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings died and therefore he no more felt safe to continue occupying the said office.

He indicates that even if the President had good intentions for the Special Prosecutor’s office, most of his appointees and members of the NPP were not happy about the establishment of the office because they were in office to enrich themselves.
