Akufo-Addo government promoting Katanka cars; purchased over 500 – Kwadwo Safo

Kwadwo Safo Kantanka Junior, Chief Executive Officer of Katanka, has lauded government for the show of support it has shown for the business since coming into office in 2017.

The CEO of the local car manufacturing company, Katanka noted that since it began operations, the Akufo-Addo government has purchased the most vehicles from his company.

He disclosed that close to 500 vehicles have been purchased for use by the Ministries of Trade and Agriculture.

Comparing the situation to what was witnessed during previous regimes, Kwadwo Safo Kantanka Jnr asserted that even though there was interest expressed by previous governments, the levels of support can’t be compared to the Akufo-Addo administration.

“Under the Mahama administration, the late Vice President purchased and used some of our cars. But under this government a lot more has been acquired, they have bought about 500 of our cars for the trade and Agric ministries,” he mentioned.

This goes a long way to buttress the government’s quest to establish an automotive hub in Ghana to serve the sub-regional market.

Several global car brands have expressed interest, through the government’s flagship One-District-One-Factory, to set up assembly plants in Ghana including German car brand Volgswagen, Japanese’s Toyota and Chinese’s Sino Truck.

Talking about the prospects of the company, the Kantanka CEO disclosed that his company has opened a branch in Dubai since the market there understands the products it’s coming out with.

He also noted that Kantanka will venture into the production of electric cars that can run up to 4 hours before requiring a recharge.

“By the end of this year, Kantanka will build electric cars that could travel between Accra to Kumasi before recharge. We intend to do that before this year ends.”

Kwadwo Safo Kantanka averred, ”Our company is fast-growing and currently we have another headquarters at Dubai and the challenge there is healthy for us because they understand luxury and that is good for us.”
