Akufo-Addo Did Not Think Deeply Before Introducing Free SHS – Educationist

Professor Kwame Badu Antwi-Boasiako, an educationist, claims that the Nana Akufo-Addo government did not give the Free Senior High School policy any thought.

He said the Free Senior High School policy should not have been introduced now because it is very expensive to sustain, speaking at the 63rd Anniversary, Speech, and Prize Giving Day Celebration at the Agona Swedru Secondary School on the theme: *SUSTENANCE OF QUALITY EDUCATION AMIDST THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC:THE ROLE OF STAKEHOLDERS.

He stated that as a result of the Free Senior High School policy, Senior High Schools in the country are currently facing several issues, citing a lack of classrooms and dorms to accommodate the students, which has caused the kids to suffer.

He stated that due to work overload, teachers at various Senior High Schools are suffering greatly.

Prof. Kwame Badu Antwi-Boasiako raised concerns about the quality of education provided by the Free Senior High School policy.

He urged the government to increase the number of accommodations, classrooms, and teacher accommodations, as well as offer internat to all Senior High Schools around the country, in order to improve the Free Senior High School policy.

Mrs. Golder Esi Andam, the Headmistress of Agona Swedru Senior High School, also appealed to the government, stakeholders, and former students of the school to support the school in obtaining teacher accommodations.

She stated that teachers at the school have a difficult time finding a place to sleep.

Mrs. Andam pointed out that the school’s land is being encroached upon by community members, and she urged former students to help the institution erect a barrier wall.

She also urged the Agona East District Assembly’s District Chief Executive to expedite the construction of the school’s CHPS facility, which is being built by the assembly.
