Justice Isaac Duose, a retired Court of Appeal judge, believes President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has failed to meet the standards he set for himself as Ghana’s leader.

The government has acknowledged that there are issues, particularly in recent times with the rise in general goods and services across the country, but blames Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.

However, in an exclusive interview with Nii Marmah Boye of Class News, Justice Douse stated that the President must take responsibility for the finger pointing at him and his administration for the current difficulties.

“Akufo-Addo is the cause of his own difficulty,” Justice Douse said of the President’s performance so far in office. “He made too many promises presumably not understanding how he was going to deliver those promises.”

“Ghana is a huge country with few resources,” he says, “so if you open your mouth too wide, you’ll be assessed by the yardstick you’ve constructed.”

“If you want to judge Akufo-Addo’s performance by the yardstick he created, he has performed extremely terribly,” he remarked, adding, “if I see him, I will tell him: ‘Kweku, you haven’t done well.”

“I keep asking the voters: ‘Do you truly believe some of the promises the political leaders make when they are on the platforms asking for your votes?” Justice Duose said during the election campaign that the President made too many promises. He interrogated.

Apart from the President’s performance, Justice Douse also faults the electorate for failing to properly evaluate the promises made in order to elect persons to positions of power.

“It’s not that if he says he can do it, we should vote for him,” he explained. “We have to genuinely examine whether he has the ability to execute what he has pledged to do.”
