The 2016 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted a challenge thrown to him by President John Mahama for a public debate on ‘contentious’ national issues.
During an interview with TV 3 on Monday, the President had said the NPP leader has made many controversial comments about how the country is being run, indicating a debate would unearth the truth.
“Indeed [Akufo-Addo] made a lot of contentious statements that I would have wished that you had him here, so that we would debate those issues, but essentially our parties are involved in agreeing the format of the debate, who organises it and all that, and, so, it’s not for me to say.
“I’m sure that the NDC party at the appropriate time, if they are invited to debate, will have to take a decision on whether they feel comfortable with whoever is organising the debate and all that. But, like I said, I’m willing, even this afternoon, if Nana presented himself, to take him on all those contentious statements that he’s made,” Mahama had said.
Reacting to the Mahama’s comments on his Twitter handle, Akufo-Addo said if accepting the challenge for a national debate will solve Ghana’s problems then he is ready to do it.
