On behalf of the government and people of Ghana, I extend greetings to Muslims in Ghana and all over the world, as they begin the one-month journey of spiritual devotion, in line with Allah’s command. It is my hope that this month of Ramadan, being a blessed one, will renew their faith and commitment to the Ghana Project.
The Qur’an establishes the basis for the Ramadan fast, when it states that, “fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may ward off evil” (Q:2183). Many ills continue to plague our society, and it is my prayer that Muslims will use this month of intense devotion to the principles of the Qur’an to pray to Allah to alleviate these ills, and anchor our country firmly on the path of progress, prosperity and righteousness.
Let us use the occasion to pray for the leadership of the Muslim community in Ghana, especially its National Chief Imam, who has been an exemplary guide of the Muslim faithful in Ghana since 1993. Let the fellow-feeling, that will characterize this holy month, continue to define how we deal with one another, even after the month of Ramadan.
Once again, I wish all Muslims Allah’s guidance and peace as they observe this truly unique month of bliss and blessing.
Asalamu Alaikum!
