5 Communities Get Electricity In Savannah Region

Five communities in the North East district of the Savannah Region have been connected to the national grid.

The commissioning of the electricity in the district formed part of the first phase of the Rural Electrification Project.

The five communities are Lantikpa, Kidengi, Tunga, Kanakulai and Kpalayili.

The North East District Chief Executive (DCE) , Alhassan Abdallah Iddi, addressing residents during the commissioning on Monday, July 23, 2019, said the electricity project would improve the living standards of residents in the communities.

According to him, the project would create more employment opportunities and also enable children study under improved conditions to enhance their education.

He indicated that it was the intention of President Akufo-Addo to provide a 100 percent coverage of the Rural Electrification Project.

Mr. Iddi disclosed that the Sinohydro Project which was launched in Tamale some months ago would ensure a complete coverage of communities in all municipalities and districts in the northern sector.

He appealed to Chiefs and opinion leaders in the district to continue to support the security in ensuring a peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic groups in the district.

The Savannah Regional Minister, Salifu Adam Braimah, revealed that the region was the lowest with regards to electricity connectivity in the country with a percentage of 48 percent.

He advised community members to desist from engaging in bush fires which could destroy the electricity pole and deprive them from getting access to electricity.

Chiefs and people of the beneficiary communities thanked the President and the DCE for connecting them onto the national grid.
