4 Momo Griffers interrupt

The suspects

FOUR men alleged to be the mastermind behind a mobile money (MOMO) crime ring in the Ashanti Region that swindles individuals of cash have been arrested in a police crackdown on digital scam.

Emmanuel Okyere, aka Abass Salifu, 22; Prince Stephens, aka Sasamula, 20; Akwasi Gyebi, 22, electrician; and Kelvin Agyemang aka Hawk, 18; were smoked out from their hideout at Deyansi, a farming community in the Adansi-Asokwa District on June 27, 2019.

The Fomena District Police Command arrested the scam operators upon an intelligence-led operation following months of surveillance and tracking.

Supt Albert Fii Ochil said 16 assorted mobile phones were found on the gangsters who run a criminal network that scam people with mobile money accounts after generating about 100 mobile phone numbers in an elaborate scheme.

According to him, once the scammers had the names and phone numbers of people, they sent fake mobile money messages to con victims into paying monies.

The police chief stated that all the four men had since been remanded in police custody by the Fomena District Court where they are facing provisional charges relating to conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences.

Supt. Ochil said the gang had Kelvin Agyemang as the secretary of the network, who writes downs names of their potential victims having obtained their contact details.
