40 Teenage Pregnant Girl Test Positive For HIV Out Of 336 Pregnancies Cases Recorded At Adansi Asokwa

According to the Adansi Asokwa Health Directorate, 336 teenage pregnancies were registered in 2021, with 16 pregnant women testing positive for HIV/AIDS.

Teenage reported instances were high and concerning, according to District Director of Health David Kunta.

David Kunta, speaking to press at the Adansi Asokwa Health Directorate end-of-year performance review in the Adansi Asokwa region of Ashanti, said that over 336 adolescent pregnancies had been documented, with 40 pregnant women testing positive for HIV.

“The rate of teenage pregnancy, as well as the projected total for 2021, is alarming. We are currently implementing a program of education to help lower the number of teen pregnancies.”

He blamed ‘Pragya and Aboboya’ operators for impregnating teenagers in the neighborhood.

Kwame Oduro-Owusu, the Director of Education for the Adansi Asokwa District, said the Directorate has been using community forums and school gatherings to talk about the repercussions of adolescent pregnancies in order to help minimize the scourge in the district.

Nana Abuyaa Owusuaa II, Adansi Fomena Kyidom Obaapanin, who urged parents to provide for their daughters’ needs, also urged parents to be closer to their daughters to help minimize adolescent pregnancy in the community.

Nana Owusua also advocated for the establishment of abstinence groups to teach young women about sex and its consequences.
