The police have arrested a 30-year-old Burkinabe, Osman Barre who is alleged to have shot and killed a police constable at Sawla in the Northern Region on March 25.

Barre, together with three others had robbed a house in the area and were running away when they saw police Corporal Yaw Lokpao, who was on patrol duties making a call.

Thinking that the policeman was making the call to his colleagues to effect their arrest, Barre shot and killed him instantly.

Even though the police managed to arrest one of them, Barre and two others fled and took refuge at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Police Briefing

Briefing the Daily Graphic about the arrest, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah said the suspect who was arrested led the police to effect the arrest of Barre.

According to him Barre was arrested at his hideout at Anyimana, a suburb of Techiman today.

ASP Tawiah said Barre has been placed in police custody while efforts were being made to arrest the remaining two criminals.

He appealed to the general public to assist the police to arrest the remaining two criminals to face the law.
