The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba has won the admiration of the former President, Jerry John Rawlings after delivering a speech to motivate young girls of Mamfe Methodist Girls Senior High School.
The former President gave the Minister a standing ovation and openly commended her for her passion to the development of the girl child.
“The Minister has inspired me, I hope I will meet her on a high Political Platform someday,” The former President said this Saturday when speaking as the guest of Honour at the 4th Speech and Prize Given Day organized by Mamfe Methodist Girls Senior High School in the Eastern Region on the theme: “Discipline; a Prerequisite for Academic Excellence, Stakeholders Take.”
The Gender Minister charged the students to develop a resilient mentality and believe in themselves despite the challenges that may come their way.
According to the Minister, young women must be self-motivated and not to give in any sexual exchanges for favours because hardworking and determination is the only key to success.
She said the Gender Ministry is making sure that no Ghanaian Child is left out or behind in getting access to quality education. She said the free SHS policy is to provide equal opportunity for all to have access to education.
“Government of Ghana is committed to ensuring that every Ghanaian child of school going age is given free, quality education from kindergarten to the Senior High School level in order to ensure equal opportunities, gender equality and equity for all and to achieve the SDG Goal 5. My Ministry the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in line with the vision of the NPP Government is leaving no Stone unturned to ensure.”
The Headmistress of the Mamfe Methodist Girls SHS, Ms. Sylvia Isabella Laryea speaking to Kasapa News said the School is facing infrastructural challenges and in dire need of an ultramodern dining Hall, Assembly Hall, Kitchen, teachers’ bungalow and the construction of roads in the school as the dust affects asthmatic students.
She added that, 400 beds were supplied to the school during the admission challenges of the free Senior High School beneficiaries which some classrooms have been converted as dormitories accommodating some of the students while the work has resumed on the stalled dormitory block.
