Ex-Dutch international George Boateng has no regrets for choosing Holland over Ghana

Ghana-born former Dutch international George Boateng says he has no regrets for choosing the Netherlands ahead of his native country Ghana.

Boateng having left Ghana at a tender age with his parents to settle in the European country featured for the Oranje at both youth and senior level.

The 40-year-old played for the Netherlands National team from 2001 to 2006 having represented the Dutch U21’s in the 90’s.

The former Middlesbrough and Hull City captain opted to play for the Dutch having spent most of his life in the Netherlands.

The Nkawkwa-born midfielder despite his love for Ghana says he has no regrets for snubbing his country of birth to represent the Dutch.

“I was born here [Ghana] but I left the country at a very young age…so I featured in the Under16s, 18s and 21s and by the time I made my senior debut that is when the Black Stars actually realized that ‘hey he is one of us’ and by then it was too late,” he told Starr FM.

“It’s not like I didn’t want to but the interest wasn’t there and the relationship wasn’t there. I don’t regret it because I was in a very privileged position, every world cup I had two teams to support, so I was never losing, if Ghana was knocked out I became Dutch and vice versa.”

The ex-Aston Villa man has been invited by former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah to help promote Peace and tranquility in the country ahead of the November General elections.
